NYERERE NATIONAL PARK

Nyerere National Park, better known as Selous Game Reserve, is the largest national park in Tanzania. It covers an area of 30.893 km 2 . The park is located in the south-east of Tanzania and lies about 230 km by road from the capital Dar Es Salaam, at Mtemere Gate.

Only in 2019 it has obtained the status as a national park and changed its name from Selous to Nyerere, in honour of Julius Nyerere, the first president of Tanzania.

The entire area is untouched by human hand. It is one of the wildest and most incontaminated areas left in Africa. It offers a broad variety of natural habitats with open grasslands, swamp areas and rain forests. The Selous represents a true stronghold for the African wild dog and hosts a big amount of animals of the savannah such as elephants, buffalos, lions, impala, kudu, baboons and giraffes.

The park is crossed by the Rufiji, the biggest river in Tanzania, which runs up to the Indian Ocean and hosts

coccodriles, hippos and a wide range of birds. Visitors will enjoy many different types of Safaris: standard safari, walking safari with a ranger and above all boat safari. The park is infact one of the few places in Tanzania where it is possible to navigate the river. This unique

experience offers a full immersion into the wild.

MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK

The grassy plains of Mikumi, encircled by mountain ranges, are like a colorful bowl shimmering in a play of ever-changing skies and light. And the floor of this bowl has a prolific wildlife, in which the huge herds of animals, the elephants and the roaring of the lions are only some of the many highlights. The flood plain provides a habitat for a diverse bird fauna, with both resident species and a number of migrants that fly here to escape from the Eurasian winter.  The gentle foothills and vast miombo woodland savanna that spread out in the southern parts of the park are quiet another world. It is here that one of the most magnificent antelopes in Africa, the sable antelope, still roams, and this area continues to form part of the corridor, or ancient migratory route, by which animals move between the Selous GR and the Mikumi plains.

Untitled

RUAHA NATIONAL PARK

The picturesque savannas of Ruaha are concealed in the interior of Tanzania’s backwards, in an area fed by the Great Ruaha River. The awesome scenery of this area consists of tolling plains interrupted by gentle hills and smooth rocky outcrops, all framed by mighty baobabs. One might wonder at the unique combination represented by the visual beauty of this park, but if the best features of the Tarangire and Serengeti NP’s were put togethe, the result might be very much what we see here.      The amazingly profuse wildlife sum up almost everything that is essential to the Tanzanian savanna environment. All five great predators, both species of kudu antelope and both of the horse-like antelopes, to name only a few outstanding pieces in the wildlife jigsaw puzzle, are part of the widely diverse fauna of the Ruaha ecosystem. The bird life to be found in the wetlands can leave nobody cold.

UDZUNGWA MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK

Udzungwa is the most significant example of the natural world of the Eastern Arc Mountains that run in a chain through the whole of Tanzania. It is the forests of the park that make Udzungwa unique in East Africa,as there is no other place where an unbroken series of forests stretching from an altitude of 250 meters up to more than 2000 meters has been successfully preserved. They change in aspect to an amazing extent with increasing altitude, from lush lowland rain forest up to the foggy or misty montane forest.    There are innumerable natural details to be found in this park that place it in a class of its own on a world scale, no less. There are number of species among the flora and fauna that are endemic to Udzungwa, and astonishingly, these even include two medium- sized monkeys witch live exclusively in these forests.

At Alfamale Tours & Safaris, we go above and beyond to meet our clients' travel needs. No matter where you’re going and for how long, we recommend you read through our wide collection of resources to be fully prepared for your upcoming trip.

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

The last great rotation

Serengeti is the only remaining natural grazing ecosystem to be found in the world. The vast open plains in the heart of the complex stretch away as far as they eye can see and the throb with life in an endless annual rhythm that is maintained by a migrating herd of 1.1 million gnu and the best known population of great predators, lions and spotted hyenas on the frontline to be found on earth. The giant Nile crocodiles are waiting their turn as the big migration enters their area. The richness of the wild fauna of Serengeti is dazzling, but it all living in the rhythm of the seasons, with a range of variation that extends all the seasons, with a range of variation that extends all the way from exuberance to misery

Untitled

NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

Honouring both wildlife and human culture

Ngorongoro is a pioneering experiment in multiple land use, as the park has the multiple purpose of integrating the protection of the local people with that of wild nature, the latter being divided into two separate biogeographical systems. The vast plains in the west and north are definitely a part of the Serengeti ecosystem, whereas the centerpieces of the other part is the breathtaking Ngorongoro crater, one of the natural wonders of the world. Amazing, the crater floor is a natural sanctuary for almost all the large mammalian species essential to the East African plains. It’s highlights include one of Tanzania’s most viable populations of the critically endangered black, or browse rhino, and it is also here that the density of great predators, headed by hyenas and lions, is the highest in the world.

Untitled

MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

The hidden treasure of the Great Rift Valley

Manyara is an astronishing oasis in the Great Rift Valley, for although the valley is thousands of kilometers long,it only here that the high water table fed by countless springs from the escarpment has given rise to a dense tropical vegetation, a forest brought about by a superfluity of groundwater. But Manyara is much more besides. Its evergreen forests, its park- like savanna dotted with acacias and open plains stretching down to the lake shores, together with rugged wall of the Rift Valley as a backdrop, make Manyara into a microcosm of Tanzania’s natural environment. The picture reaches perfection where all the rich mammalian fauna, featuring elephant, buffaloes, lions and giraffe, is included, not to mention the superb bird like on the shores of the watercourses.

Untitled

TARANGIRE  NATIONAL PARK

A meet of giants

Tarangire provides a wonderful spectacle of a savanna environment and a meeting point for the mightiest components of the African wilderness, right here where the savanna is dotted with monumental baobabs and where the most magnificent herds of African elephants to be found in northern Tanzania are roaming. Life is spectacular in the dry season, when the migratory  ungulates come back to the permanent waters of the Tarangire River. During the best period, from August to October, Tarangire is one of the most astonishing strongholds for wildlife of the African continent. The park’s environment is dominated by savanna woodlands, wetlands and seasonal flood plains and boasts a birdlife of exceptional species diversity.

Untitled

KILIMANJARO

An ecological cross section from equatorial heat to gleaming glaciers

As the continent’s highest peak, Mt Kilimanjaro is indisputably the king among the islands in the African sky. It is not only an awesome dormant volcano, but it is a spectacular and diverse showcase of the natural world as well. Within a short distance from the outskirts to the to top of the mountain all aspects of life are transformed from lush tropical conditions to an icy lava desert, so that both hot summers and icy cold winter conditions are everyday phenomena. On the upper slopes, where a health vegetation prevails, life has discovered its own exceptiona adaptations to the extrem natural conditions. Nothing is eternal, however not even the huge glaciers covering the top of the mountain, and Mt Kilimanjaro is expected to lose its icy cap within a short period time, perhaps during the current decade.

Boating

Nyerere national park (SELOUS GR)

The boat safaris are conducted in strong metal boats with a powerful outboard motor. Guided by boatmen that have grown up on the river, guests can be assured of their safety all the time. Boat safaris provide some of the best water birding in Africa as well as getting up close and personal to watching elephants come down to drink, birds nesting on the islands and Crocodiles that are in the water or basking on the river banks.

Predator's Love

Game drives

Unforgettable Memories

Game drives are conducted early in the morning as well as in the late afternoon and these are normally conducted in open roof safari cars to offer tourists the most rewarding views of the animals. The park ranger guides are very knowledgeable about the best places the animals and they will lead you to those places.

Untitled

Walking Safaris

Family Friendly

A unique opportunity is to experience a walking safari through the bush. These guided walks are accompanied by a watchman and a fully qualified armed guide. The pace is gentle and the emphasis is placed on ecology, tracking, dung identification, medicinal uses of trees and plants, birds and generally interpreting the bush. The possibility of seeing Lions or Wild dogs on foot is minimal, but Elephant sightings are common and to walk up relatively close to Elephants is an experience never to be forgotten.

Untitled

Fly-Camping

Nyerere national park ( Selous GR)

For the adventurous traveller, the possibility of a one or two night fly-camp where guests will 'rough it' in the bush, accompanied by their own walking guide, is popular. The fly-camps have good-sized tents, a hot bucket shower and a toilet; yet retain a feeling of being very remote. Dinner is cooked on the open fire and enjoyed outside
